On January 24th “GSMA 2013″ team informed to SSI that its humanitarian relief application TERA, was nominated in the GSMA 2013 Awards and is one of five potential winners of this prestigious award in the Best Use of Mobile in Emergency or Humanitarian Situations category.

The main reason TERA has a high probability of winning is because of the humanitarian input to build this application. TERA was developed during the Haiti earthquakein 2010 in cooperation with the Red Cross, one ofthe largest humanitarian organizations in the worl. SSI and the Red Cross have worked together since then on rolling out the system to global networks.

TERA’s success for humanitarian purposes is based on the following key features: its GIS-based user interface to facilitate target messages to affected locations; on-line network monitoring to update subscriber locations, and TERA is a free service for the people affected. These features have opened up the option to evolve TERA into a commercial version named Omega Geointelligence with features that have enhanced commercial uses. Learn more about Omega Suite.

The GSMA’s Global Mobile Awards offer organizations across the global mobile eco-system (including all converging vertical sectors) the opportunity to showcase the latest and best mobile products, apps, services and initiatives worldwide. Awards presentation takes place during the Mobile World Congress, the world’s largest and leading mobile industry event held annually in Barcelona (25th -28th February 2013).

TERA is currently in the process of negotiating rollout stages in a number of networks, including Telenor, Safari com, Telia Sonora, Be mobile, Digicel, Afritel, Comium, among others.
